The walls are finished and ready to keep out any unwanted guests….

I painted the walls with an airbrushed and only lightly weathered them (by my standards), since I wanted the appearance that they are well maintained. I’ve run out of Mantic bases but I plan to add another section or two in the future.

    Some WIP pieces
A couple of 3D printed containers, 2 Conflix grey buildings which I will pimp out, a toxic pool of cheese with walkway, a classic scifi piece – a pringle style storage tower.

I’ve finished the storage tank and its ready to paint. I’m not convinced about the balcony but i will carry on, as it was a lot of work and I don’t want to spend more time on it.

In perhaps a wargames first, I’ve used parts from some children’s LoL Dolls (the pink containers)! The rest is a mix of 3D printed, plasticard, wire, sprues and bases. I sliced some of the bolts of the conflix terrain and used them on this for some of the plates

    Thanks

The tower is completed. I wasn’t sure about the design while it was under construction but it looks good finished.

I forgot to mention the ladder is from the Conflix syberclicks set and it works well.

The next piece ready for painting is a giant vat of cheese! This may be a homage to one of the players in our group who is renowned for using cheesy lists.

I changed the gangplank as the other one was too big and its not fixed down yet, so will be easier to paint. Its made mostly from Conlfix syberclicks parts with Dungeons and lasers stairs and a PVC foam frame.

The vat is made from a blank CD case and there is a couple of fluorescent lamp starters and a random electrical piece. The cheese is made from rubber caulk.

    Thanks

The giant vat of cheesy toxic cheese is finished. Actually I might add a couple of decals but the painting and basing is complete.

Here’s some 3D printed containers I painted. On the large ones I stuffed up and sprayed the numbers on upside down, but you cant really tell! 😮

I’ve been painting some figures to fight with. These are Void Kryomek Nexus SWAT figures and they have quite a cool style. I picked them up on a whim secondhand and they were great to paint, but all that red was hard work! I’m still thinking about adding numbers to them on the white shoulder pad.

    Thanks for looking

Excellent idea!  Awesome figures, by the way.  Beautiful paintwork.

I found another plastic box so it was converted to a habitat. Again lots of random parts including a LoL doll piece, Hot wheels wheel and 3D printed parts!

I’ve also started on some prefab/shanty buildings and here are the basic shells. I need to add lots of details to them. Also a couple of mutant testing stations in the front of the picture

    Thanks for looking

Here’s the first 2 prefab buildings I started a while back. They took a long time gluing and fitting all the bits and pieces together. The main shapes are made from PVC foam, cardboard and plasticard, with all sorts of pieces glued on, including a bazillion rivets I cut up to make.

I’m still working on my prefab buildings, but I managed to paint the remaining habitat I posted a few messages back.

Its the same colours as before with some weathering using a thin airbrush spray and chipping with a piece of sponge.

Its been a while, however these are the last 2 prefab buildings. Again they are a mix of Conflix pieces, random junk and model leftovers, 3D printed parts topped off with a big dose of rivets!

That is really cool.  Perfect place to pick up fresh ammo.  I really like the roof top on the 2nd building, could see a nice comfy ratty couch up there with a big awning to block the sun… and a nice post mounted heavy bolter for those”bad weather” days.

I know the purpose of this is to not spend money, but you owe it to yourself to buy some of these and post them in and around the vat of cheese…

Those are cool. The idea behind the cheese vat is a more of a commentary on one of our players who always takes the cheesiest options when we play 40K.

Yeah I wanted to add some stairs for rooftop access (to camp on) as well as ladders on other buildings

Its taken a while however my first 3 28mm prefab buildings are all finished! It took a long time because of all the details I kept adding to them, but the final result was worth it.

I’ll post the next 3 in a couple of days as I’m just finishing off some details. I used some similar colours to my earlier buildings, but I wanted these to look look more dirty and run down, so there is a lot more weathering.

The posters were found on the internet and printed out. I went around the edges of the posters with a felt pen followed by weathering powder to help blend them in.

I was because there was so much of it to paint!

Spray them red first, put brown then cream or ivory on the area to be white after the spray and then put the white on 🙂

While reading from the top of the page I mistook Conflix for cornflake and then hit the vat of cheese – cannot get the revolting idea of cornflakes topped with cheese out of my mind!

The builds are great – just enough ‘bits’ hanging off them to make them look lived in rather than fresh. The corrugated metal awning makes a nice change from a traditional material one and the orange doors have to be my favourite colour scheme – super two tone effect here.

As for the edges of paper – I found a grey sharpie works well as the colour seems to go with everything (inc the blue / red walls I’ve used before).

Good idea to use a neutral colour, I used different coloured pens to shade the edges but I found they still looked too clean against the buildings. The weathering powders helped blend them into the grime of the buidlings.

One of my goals for this build was to make sure I had enough scenery to play Planet 28’s Escape from Lychester VII campaign. In the first scenarios there is a space port on the table edge and I thought it would be good to make this a larger piece, which can double as a backdrop in games and for posting photos.

It was constructed from PVC Foam, and I glued XPS foam, old sprues, plasticard, mdf scraps and various 3d printed and other bits to it. It ended up much bigger than I planned, and one of my original goals was to make sure all the terrain fitted into some boxes I already have, but this is too big. 🙁

The sign I made after buying a cheap hot wire foam cutter and I like that its not perfect. Also the sign is removeable and held on with magnets, so it will be easier to paint and store.

With a couple of figures to give you an idea of the size.

I do love how haphazard and retrofitted your creations appear.  Like old SF gritty comics, or actions way out on the underfunded fringe.

My next build is a landing pad designed for smaller space craft.

The main part is made from a failed 3d print of a platform, cardboard and XPS foam and the edges are old GW Warhammer regiment bases. The legs are part of the 3D print with some extra details added.

The lift/elevator is made from a modified Dungeons and Laser piece and with a bit of work, it fits into the recess on the landing pad. I”ll paint it separate so it can be set to different heights

Thanks I am very pleased with the space port.

Here’s some simple vents I made for one of the Stargrave scenarios a while back. They are made from 3d printed vent, a 32mm base, a heroclix base and a 3D printed tube at the bottom to give them more height.

Also there is some 3D printed barrels and a couple of Star Wars containers, that were lingering on my work bench.
