New 1/700 3-D prints from Turner Miniatures have been added to my collection, and in my recent post I showcase the French 40-gun frigate Coquille and her four sister ships of the Coquille-class.

In addition, I take a look at the history behind the other model featured, the rather unique, HMS Glatton 56-guns, and her famous action off the Dutch coast in 1796, single-handed against a French squadron, likely consisting of a French razee, five frigates/corvettes and a brig, under her daring commander, Captain Sir Henry Trollope.

Those Turner Miniatures do look good, particularly with your superb paintwork and rigging. 🙂

I have been very tempted to buy some, but my age of sail miniatures are 1/1200 scale and I haven’t seen good options for masts and sails to go with the printed hulls in 1/1200 scale.

    Hi AH,

Thank you and I too am a late adopter of 3-D for the same reason, and toyed with the idea of using piano wire rods and Warlord card sails but settled on using the Warlord masts as well as a few other bits including boats and anchors and have been very happy with the result.

The prints are particularly nice to use to represent specific vessels in small squadron or single ship encounters where their different characteristics stand out on the table much more than in big battle games where the generic Warlord plastic hulls are more than adequate to produce a nice looking battle line.

Thus I am adding to my collection these 3D options principally with my small engagement scenarios in mind to bring to the table.

As for 1:1200, I would have thought you might use Rod Langton’s metal masts and some of the etched sail options with the 3D hulls to get a similar effect.

    Cheers

    JJ
