Yes, it does look nice.  Another scenario to try out.

I am impressed with how these rules work in JJ’s games.

I agree with all the above.

I’ve recently come to the conclusion that based on what little evidence we have Irish warriors of Late Antiquity should be equipped with a medium sized oblong shield and a sword that looked and functioned very much like a Gladius. I might convert some in 15mm.

“it’s about men who still had at this time, guarded, all their celticity …”

You will understand that by virtue of their very existence they achieved that. They were the first line of defence of their legal and social system and all aspects of their culture which in turn provided them with their status as noble warriors.

Most of their kit was imported it didn’t change who they were or what they represented.

The advice above is sound enough if you want to represent them on the table top.

I suspect you might get a good game working back from the Marlburian amendments to Honours of War.  Pure supposition on my part.

I’m currently awaiting the release of Brent Oman’s Give Fire rules for the ECW.

Pikeman’s Lament is a load of fun and it is easy enough to create the stats for mixed poke and shot units.

Xyston, which aren’t included in Aaron’s line up shown above, tend to bigger and even bigger than any of the figures shown.  I have some of their Persians which are fine on separate bases with the rest.  Their later ranges are mainly much bigger.

Thank you very much Rhys. I glad you found it useful.  I’m still learning-for example- you cannot file Green Stuff so best be sparing and get it right first time.  You can add to it and work it wet.  Other beginners insights will be in my next blog.

My first unit of Algernon Percy’s Bill Men is nearly complete.  It was mostly done with Milliput.  Some French and Border Horse will be next. Also I’ve started on some shields.

Thanks Rhys.  Mike told me to get some Green Stuff so I did.  I have now used some and in many ways its so much easier than Milliput.  I also found it much faster to apply.  I think you should give it a go and good luck with it.

I’ll be doing a few blogs that might be of interest on all this as I go so I’ll post them on TWW under Blogs.

I should have added Rex Warner Imperial Caesar, two books sold as one and absolutely magnificent.  Caesar speaks to us directly and it’s very believable.

Alfred Duggan Winter Quarters is a splendid read.  It begins in Gaul and follows the story of two Gallic nobles who end up in Parthia with Crassus.

Thanks Ian.  I do have a few reference books and the internet is great too.

Cerdic, it had to be done.  I had voices, like St Joan, saying just paint three salmon in a ragged row but no bigger than 3mm each mind.

I’m impressed by the paper heraldry William.

The figures are all Black Hat 15s.

I might just change the hair colour on some of these to lighter brown or even fair.  Anyhow here is the link.
