OBParticipant
Yes, it does look nice. Another scenario to try out.
I am impressed with how these rules work in JJ’s games.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantThanks Rhys. I think I’m learning more as I go.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantVery kind Rhys, thank you.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantCheers William.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantHare today gone tomorrow.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantI agree with all the above.
I’ve recently come to the conclusion that based on what little evidence we have Irish warriors of Late Antiquity should be equipped with a medium sized oblong shield and a sword that looked and functioned very much like a Gladius. I might convert some in 15mm.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipant“it’s about men who still had at this time, guarded, all their celticity …”
You will understand that by virtue of their very existence they achieved that. They were the first line of defence of their legal and social system and all aspects of their culture which in turn provided them with their status as noble warriors.
Most of their kit was imported it didn’t change who they were or what they represented.
The advice above is sound enough if you want to represent them on the table top.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantThank you gentlemen.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantCheers Mike I wanted it to be a bit Kurosawa.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantVery interesting and of course great to look at.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantFair enough Mike consider it done. And now it is.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantI suspect you might get a good game working back from the Marlburian amendments to Honours of War. Pure supposition on my part.
I’m currently awaiting the release of Brent Oman’s Give Fire rules for the ECW.
Pikeman’s Lament is a load of fun and it is easy enough to create the stats for mixed poke and shot units.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantLot of truth there and I guess it is more natural.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantXyston, which aren’t included in Aaron’s line up shown above, tend to bigger and even bigger than any of the figures shown. I have some of their Persians which are fine on separate bases with the rest. Their later ranges are mainly much bigger.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantI enjoy painting and find it very relaxing.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantOne drummer to go and my first converted unit is done.
There’a stuff on using Milliput too on the blog.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantVery good KB let us know how you get on.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantThank you very much Rhys. I glad you found it useful. I’m still learning-for example- you cannot file Green Stuff so best be sparing and get it right first time. You can add to it and work it wet. Other beginners insights will be in my next blog.
My first unit of Algernon Percy’s Bill Men is nearly complete. It was mostly done with Milliput. Some French and Border Horse will be next. Also I’ve started on some shields.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantThanks Dark Star. I will, I’ve got the bug.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantThanks Rhys. Mike told me to get some Green Stuff so I did. I have now used some and in many ways its so much easier than Milliput. I also found it much faster to apply. I think you should give it a go and good luck with it.
I’ll be doing a few blogs that might be of interest on all this as I go so I’ll post them on TWW under Blogs.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantI should have added Rex Warner Imperial Caesar, two books sold as one and absolutely magnificent. Caesar speaks to us directly and it’s very believable.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantHere is a conversion mania work in progress Rhys, before and after. He needs highlighting and a banner.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantConversion mania here. Milliput and Green Stuff everywhere. Three figures completed so far so this is going to be the slowest project ever. I’m enjoying it though.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantAlfred Duggan Winter Quarters is a splendid read. It begins in Gaul and follows the story of two Gallic nobles who end up in Parthia with Crassus.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantThat’s the stuff! Very nice to see. I do this in 15mm.
Yes Ramos’s flags are excellent.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantWhat Cerdic said. All to often I find myself scrabbling for ‘what happens now?”
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantThanks Ian. I do have a few reference books and the internet is great too.
Cerdic, it had to be done. I had voices, like St Joan, saying just paint three salmon in a ragged row but no bigger than 3mm each mind.
I’m impressed by the paper heraldry William.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantYes, there are a fair few things I won’t game. That said I’m under no illusions about the reality of the stuff I do game. I guess we each go with what we’re comfortable with and interested in.
I liked Norm’s points above.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantThanks Truls, they saw action last night.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantBrilliant! Thanks, just had to try it out.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantYes, I’ll get some. Meantime practice cannot hurt I suppose.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/21/11/2017 at 19:00 in reply to: Is there a link between number of games and number of different games? #76700OBParticipantYes, for me. I play 5 different games and I think if I only played one I’d get more games in.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantFair point!
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantThe stats for the Libyans for Myceneaen Lion Rampant are now up on my blog. There are some pics too.
The figures are all Black Hat 15s.
I might just change the hair colour on some of these to lighter brown or even fair. Anyhow here is the link.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantMy suggested stats for the Sea Peoples are now up on my blog.
Do have a gander if this your sort of thing.
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantThanks Mike. The rules are great and very affordable. I’d say a game could look pretty impressive in 6mm, a real sense of mass.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantThanks Jeff. I’ve some photos of Hittites let me find them. Mainly Black Hat with a couple of Minifigs.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantHappy to Victoria. I’m working through the stats for Mycenaean, Hittite, Sea Peoples and Libyan Retinues. I’ll post them as each is completed. The figures are mostly done.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantNo, they didn’t, but Essex make them. Ordinary Pike I suppose or even Raw.
OB
http://withob.blogspot.co.uk/OBParticipantI like the idea of the Tatars as Dragoons, maybe the mounted Azabs too, but inferior ones.
I think I’ll be re-basing too.
